La Kejoca - global folk
Ke - Keno Brandt, Jo - Jonas Rölleke & Ca - Carmen Bangert make 'global folk' with vocals, violin, whistles, hurdy-gurdy, banjolele, guitars & bass.
At the end of 2015, they gave their first performances as part of 'Musik in d' Lüchterkark' and their first major concert at the "Venner Folk Frühling" in 2016. Just six months later, they released their debut album 'Fade in' and in 2017 they played at major festivals across Germany, such as the 'Wacken Winter Nights', the 'Mystica Hamelon' and the 'Autumn Moon'.
Since then, they have made a name for themselves in Germany with their 'global folk'. In 2020, they became award winners of the 1st 'Dieter Wasilke Folk Prize' and their CD 'Libertad' was honoured with the coveted Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award) in 2022.
Their international background with roots in South America, Portugal and Friesland flows into their musical work, as do traditional lyrics and melodies, which they fuse with their own new music. In their lyrics, they don't mince their words and stand up for human rights, anti-fascism, equality, climate and environmental protection, freedom and tolerance.

Others about La Kejoca
'The CD, which is superbly arranged and virtuosically recorded throughout, opens with a Vormärz text 'Ich bin ein freier Mensch und singe'. With magnificent three-part a cappella vocals, a trademark of the band, which are interwoven with a lively, Celtic-influenced tune on guitar, bass, violin, whistle, Irish bouzouki and bodhràn.'
Der Folker
'Wonderful arrangements full of instrumental and vocal diversity reach the heart, poetic images reach the soul and political and stirring messages reach the mind.'
Jens Kommnick
'They actually surprise with every piece (...) and so every piece on the CD deserves a lot of praise!'

Libertad - the new album
"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose" sings Janis Joplin in the Kris Kristofferson song 'Me and Bobby McGee'. The pursuit of freedom has always driven people to bring about change in order to change their happiness for the better.
La Kejoca has long been collecting songs that deal with freedom, or precisely the lack of it. In their search, they found texts from the 19th century, when even in Europe it was not a matter of course to express one's opinion freely. They found poems from the time of the rise of National Socialism, songs from the persecution and oppression by authoritarian systems and pieces from the late 20th century that focus on personal freedom.
The finds are now available in their new album 'Libertad', in which they were supported by Jens Kommnick (guitar, bouzouki), Michaela Haitz (bodhran), Gastón Bajarano (quena) and Jürgen Treyz (dobro, mixing & mastering) as guest musicians, among others.
In 2022, the album was honoured with the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award):
Because they know exactly what they are doing! The three of them are not only gifted multi-instrumentalists, but also very good vocalists. What's more, they go back to their different roots, in Bolivia, Portugal and Friesland. Intelligent, courageous, convincing.
